What are senior home care services? In this blog post, our senior health management company explains what home care services entail and who might benefit from them the most. |
At its core, home health care consists of any professional service that allows the individual to continue the freedom of living in their home.
In-home care services can help anyone who is:
Aging and needs assistance to live independently
Managing chronic health issues
Recovering from a medical setback
Or has special needs or a disability
Professional in-home caregivers such as nurses, aides, and therapists can provide short-term or long-term care in the home, which is dependent on a client's individual care requirements and medical needs.
Who is eligible for home care services?
Any individual in a vulnerable population may be able to receive in-home care.
Home care services can be provided to those:
Recovering from a medical injury
Managing chronic illness
Living with special needs and/or a disability
What are the different types of home care services available?
There are three main types of home care including:
Personal Care or Companionship
Personal care, also known as home health aide services assists people with their everyday tasks like bathing and meal preparation in order to further enable independence and safety of the elderly.
Private Duty Nursing Care
Private duty nursing care, also known as home-based skilled nursing is long-term hourly in-home nursing care specifically for adults with chronic illnesses, injury, or disability.
Home Health Care
Home health care, also known as visiting nurse services, is short-term care specifically designed to help a patient prevent an illness or recover from an injury, illness, or hospital stay.
How is in-home care provided?
Each of the three aforementioned home care categories is acquired in different ways:
Personal Care
Does not have to be prescribed by any medical professional; care is provided on an ongoing basis with a schedule that fits the client’s needs.
Private Duty Nursing Care
Has to be prescribed by a medical professional; care is most typically provided in shifts by nursing staff.
Home Health Care
Has to be prescribed by a medical professional; care is provided through home visits from specialized personnel. Care is on a short-term basis until the individual’s needs are met.
