The Importance of Personalized Care in Nursing Homes

Our senior care management company values the importance of personalized care in our senior care facilities. Sympaticare wants to provide the best care model and senior care facility for their needs when it comes to our loved ones.

Currently in the U.S., large-scale and impersonal nursing home corporations house over half of our nation’s elders. For our most vulnerable population, this often means being an overlooked number and not receiving the quality of care they need and deserve.

Using a personalized care model allows our residents to feel at home and have a sense of family while residing in a senior living facility, whether it be for short-term or long-term care.

The Importance of Personalized Care in Nursing Homes
At Sympaticare, your loved ones are more than just a number. In this blog post, our senior care management company explains the importance of personalized care in a senior living facility.

What Is Personalized Senior Care?

Personalized care in a senior living facility helps meet each resident's unique needs by providing specialized care plans and replicating an environment that feels just like home.

Components of Personalized Senior Care

There are several items to consider when offering personalized care to seniors. Nursing homes might want to consider:

  • Focus On Residents Life Story and Background

Get to know the residents on a personal level and take the time to learn their life stories by learning their interests, loved ones' names, and career paths.

  • Creative Staffing Approaches

The staff are referred to as “care partners” and “community members” and form individual relationships with residents.

  • Focus On Specific Possibilities For Residents

Organize individualized care plans for each resident and their abilities and interests.

  • Increased Independence

Days and nights are geared towards residents' individual lifestyles. Mealtime, bedtime, and recreational time are reflected to match how each resident enjoys spending their time.

  • Community Experiences

Establish community groups and programs for the residents’ benefit. Residents are free to join the numerous clubs and activities offered at their nursing home.

  • Use Of Better Language

Providing use of language better used in a home setting than a care facility. For example, using the term “care partner” instead of “nursing aide.

  • Small-Scale Senior Care

At Sympaticare, we believe in building locally-owned, small-scale senior care centers with a personal approach - and we offer nursing homeowners and operators an array of unmatched services to help get them there.

Benefits of Personalized Senior Care

"One-size-fits-all" care is not for everyone. When seeking a higher level of care, seniors should be able to choose a senior living community that best fits their individual needs.

Some benefits of offering a personalized approach to senior care include:

  • Feels Like Home

Residents can bring home possessions and live their days suited to their normal lifestyle.

  • Focus on Resident’s Personalized Needs

Personalized care plans are established for each resident based on their needs.

  • Sense of Family

Personalized programs provide residents with a sense of belonging. Caretakers can learn and grow with their residents as they age in their care.

About Shully Braunstein, LNHA

Shully Braunstein is the principal of Sympaticare and a New York State Licensed Administrator. His number one goal is to provide his residents with the absolute highest standard of care.

Shully currently operates a total of 6 senior care facilities across New York, each of which has seen significant increases in care ratings and quality measures since his leadership.

Shully has extensive experience working in various departments of a nursing home. He started in the activities department which helped him understand how valuable stimulation is to the residents of the nursing home. This experience taught him that without stimulation, residents are prone to deterioration. Shully later worked in the housekeeping and laundry departments of a 240-bed nursing home and became quickly aware of the challenges these departments face. He was quick to develop solutions then, and even today, the well-run housekeeping and laundry departments in his own facilities reflect his lessons of the past.
